Verursacher hierfür ist meist ein anderer Hefepilz, nämlich Malassezia furfur (auch Pityrosporum ovale genannt). Dieser Hefepilz ist ebenfalls Teil der physiologischen Hautflora, kommt also auch beim gesunden Menschen in geringer Anzahl vor. Sein Erregerreservoir bildet die Kopfhaut.
